That Comedy Nights with Kapil (SOL/K9) airing on Colors is a cult show now is a known fact.
Immensely talented and naturally gifted Kapil Sharma has created a show which has touched the deepest chords of television watchers. He and his team gave us evergreen characters like Dadi (Ali Asgar), Gutthi (Sunil Grover, now gone from the show) and Bua (Upasana Singh).
And it’s time for everyone associated with the series to rejoice for (22 June) it completes a year of successful airing.

Yes, Comedy Night’s first anniversary.
Talking on the same, the pretty and chirpy Sumona Chakravarti, who plays Kapil’s biwi in the show, said, “Well, we completed a year of shooting sometime back so all the celebrations are already done (laughs). But yes it has been a fantastic year and it does mean a lot to be number one on Colors throughout the year. And the entire credit goes to Kapil and the creative team to continue churning out fabulous scripts. Every time I travel people are so enthusiastic about the show and it’s such a great feeling to know that people actually wait for weekends to watch it.”
Sumona also shared, “I have been lucky to attend few movie screenings in the past year and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that so many film stars have spoken wonderfully about our show. Most have mentioned that they don’t miss the episodes, and if they are travelling they make sure to record the same for future viewing. Neetu ji (Kapoor) had personally told me how much she loves the show and also my sarees (smiles).”
An excited Upasana shared, “I am so happy that we have received so much of love for the show and also the character. I have actually become jagat mata for people keep telling me that whenever they hear the word bua they think of me (laughs); people of my dad’s age also call me bua.”
When we asked her whether we will see bua getting married this year, she averred, “If bua gets married the fun will be gone. The character is such that it has to continue being a spinster. I am so glad that people from Bollywood came to our show and appreciated our work. Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan have been the most wonderful guests.”
Kapil, Ali Asgar (Dadi) and Kiku Sharda (Palak) did not revert to our calls and messages.
We wish the CNWK team heartiest congratulations and a great year ahead.
